Pre-K Enrollment Qualifications

The following are the qualifying criteria for students if the parent wishes to enroll their child in Pre-K classes in Jasper ISD.

 

Criteria 1:  Limited English Proficiency – Child is unable to speak or comprehend English Language.  Must complete Home Language Survey AND child must qualify on the Oral Language Proficiency Test

 

Criteria 2:  Educational Disadvantage—The child is eligible to participate in the National School Lunch based on family income. The parent or guardian must complete a household survey AND provide proof of ALL income—pay stubs, pay envelope, letter from employer, unemployment statement, pension or disability payments, etc. 

The child is eligible to participate in the National School Lunch Program based on the family’s receipt of assistance for the following:

  • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)  (Must provide Certification or Benefit Letter)
  • Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) (Must provide Benefit Letter)
  • Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (Must provide documentation)
  • A child who is enrolled as a participant in Head Start or Even Start  (Must provide Head Start or Even Start Letter)
  • A child who is considered a migrant child (Must provide documentation)
  • A child who is considered homeless (Must provide documentation)
  • A child who is considered a runaway (Must provide documentation)
  • A child who is a foster child DFPS (Must provide documentation)

 

Criteria  3:   Homeless   Child is homeless as defined by [42 USC 11302a & 11304a]. Must have approved Student Residency Form.

 

Criteria 4    Military Dependent The child is the dependent of an active duty member of the armed forces of the United States: including the state military forces or a reserved component of the armed forces, who is ordered to active duty by proper authority (or member injured, killed or MIA while on active duty). Must provide official military documentation. Military ID will not be photocopied.

 

Criteria 5  Foster Care The child is or has ever been in the conservatorship (foster care) of the TX Department of Family Services following an adversary hearing. Must provide verification letter or other DFPS official documentation.

 

Criteria 6 Star of Texas Award Peace Officer, Firefighter, and Emergency Medical First Responders. Must have a resolution (certificate) awarded to an individual serves as proof of eligibility to enroll these children in free prekindergarten if they are age-eligible.
